A combination of punk rock and hard-core tendencies are the basis of the EMO subculture. The term "emocore" comes from emotional hardcore and is said to have appeared the middle of the 1980s. Founders of this music style began to add melodic features to their tunes. Sadness, affection, sense of guilt are common topics of their tunes. Hence, the emo style could be defined as rock music with emotional lyric features. Still, the definition of the emo style is still under debate. Even though the emo subculture was originally considered a music genre, today it is referred not only to music, but also to behaviour, clothes, hair style and the way of life. The emo style is believed to be unfashionable. This way emo representatives display that they are not interested in all aspects of society. Tight jeans and T-shirts, with printed names of popular emo bands, skate sneakers, brightly coloured stockings, a full variety of accessories, badges, bangles characterise the image of an EMOtional young person. The emo fashion is also renowned its hairstyles. Popular looks include long side-swept bangs, often covering one or both eyes. Straightened and coloured black hair is also a part of the emo style. Blue, red, pink or bleached blond highlights are very stylish. Short choppy layers of hair are also common. From time to time this fashion has been characterised as a fad. At the beginning of the third millennium, the emo style was associated with an impeccable look, but when young people adhered to the style, it became darker, with long bangs and emphasis on the colour black superseding sweater vests. Emos are highly vulnerable people. Specialists define them as introverts who are reluctant to interact with the world around. Instead, they demonstrate their standpoints by means of poetry. Poems they write are full of sadness, nostalgia and desperation. Usually these emotions are typical of youngsters aged 12 - 18, when they are emotionally sensitive. Coupled by family problems, the emoism becomes a way of life for most emo adherents.
